Summary

Symbolic interactionisms is an expressly pragmatic approach, and Blumer’s exegesis of Mead is a classic and an ongoing source of debate. Although the book was published in 1969, Blumer is best thought of as 2nd generation. Most of the ideas in the book were disseminated via his lectures and prior publications in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s.
